the front.

the end of the box

the box opened with all the sewing attachments...

patented Feb, 19, 1889...This box came with the machine...

The inside back loosly fitted...after the inside wings and inside arms
are applied then the inside back gets pulled tight and stapled and all
creases disappear.

The inside arms and inside wings fit into the same slot as the inside back.

The arms are going to have welt and antique copper nail heads as well.

outside back...

Inside wings completed.

Cliff measured out the hides, each one is 52sq. and 1.25 mm...he said
it pulls out exceptionally well considering the thickness. He's very happy with
how the inside wings and arm rests turned out.

Inside arm complete...under the welt is where the decorative copper
upholstery nail trim will be applied.

The outside arms are the next step...lastly the back is applied.
Even though the outside back will have the nail heads, I want the
entire back to have welt as well...never saw a leather chair done this
way, I hope it will look good.

Cliff thinks it will look good either way,
but is willing to do the extra work (welt and nails)
because it's my 'Captains Chair'
and I should have it the way I want it.

oh, one more thing...I promised him I would not complain about
the mess all over and I haven't. but I can't wait to clean up.

He got the back basted in -- all in one piece.

The back installed with the welt and the nails being applied.

Well, we're coming down the home stretch...While the head upholsterer
was down stairs sewing the welt for the bottom of the chair, I dragged the chair
to Command Central to have a look see...then went to fetch my camera.

Our grandpuppy Max decided he'd be the first to test drive my Mercedes !
