Default Money maker?

I got about 12 emails in one week interested in that Brio-style train table I made for the kids. Sure, prolly cuz the $25 price tag. But some folks were interested in the fact it was sturdy and had a storage drawer underneath,

I made it with 3/4" Baltic Birch, five years ago - probably spent $75 total.

I wonder what kind'a interest I could get if I priced it profitably?

Use descriptive words like custom, designer, limited edition, one of a kind, etc and you'll get alot more money for it.

I built a train table a few years back for my old next door neighbor. I just made it out of MDO and a few pieces of poplar. I had more request then i could possibly want to make more of them from their friends. Since i don't do woodworking for money, i politely declined.

Nothing fancy, and i figure all that was in it cost wise was $25 or so.

I built an 8' x 3' version, no storage drawers underneath. Painted it white, nothing fancy like you got there....wonder how much you'd have to sell it for to make it profitable, considering your time invested?

I believe those tables were over $200 in Toys 'R' Us, hence the fact that I built the one for my sons....and they weren't half as nice as what you're showing, Pat.

Hard to tell. Ya gotta think that the folks that surf CL are looking for steals/deals. Mebbe they wouldn't go that route.

One lady who email said she ran a daycare and needed one.

I built mine to take a beating - more than once came down to a slew of kids jumping on the top. Maybe a daycare would pop a little more for something that would last.

Oh well - I already got a full time job, a part time job, a coupl'a hobbies.

Just from watching from the sidelines, I would no sooner try to sell something I build for resale on Craigslist than I would drive a railroad spike through my head. Seems to me too close to trying to vend at the county dump.
