Default Milwaukee battery recall

Just saw this on another site - Milwaukee is recalling certain 14.4 and 18V Ni-Cad batteries and sending you a free replacement.

I switched over to LI bats a while ago, but I still have two of the recalled kind, so it looks like I'll be getting a couple free ones.

Wonder what happened. I hope they aren't dangerous. Being a parent my first thought is all the kids toys that have them in there and the parents are clueless to the recall.

This is off the CPSC website:

"Hazard: If a vent on the battery cell is damaged or compromised during use, the battery can explode and pose a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Milwaukee Electric Tool Co. has received 35 reports of incidents, including 11 injuries from battery packs exploding while in use. Injuries include minor cuts, bruises and some hearing loss."

All I can tell you is, I've had Milwaukee cordless tools for several years and used them hard, even abused them sometimes. No problems with batteries except wearing out a few.

Somewhat over a million batteries are included in this action. 11 injuries reported. I bet GM wishes they could say that.

This recall has been around for some time

I seem to recall there was a deadline to get batteries replaced, but do not recall when it was

Careful reading of the recall should say

Hey, Joe.

I called them yesterday morning and it's still going on. They send you a prepaid FedEx shipping label and you have to pack them up how they want. The lady I talked to said as far as she knew, they'd keep it going until they got them all back.

OK they must have had to make a change in the program then.

Between three of us locally we had 12 battery packs and 8 of them qualified for the recall.

I put in the request they sent me the ship ticket and we put all the units in one box.

Got new ones fairly quickly
