Default Thanks

A great deal of thanks to one of our moderators (Towmater) for his hospitality last weekend. I had the fine opportunity of helping him and a team carry that beastly powermatic planer to his basement. Man, if I could only do that every weekend.

Seriously, we also took some time to cover a few basics of penturing and cut a quick pen out. Then fast forward a weekend and tonight, I had the time to cut out a second pen. WOW! It was made from some scraps of I don't know what that Todd had around and it looks sharp. Maybe it's pecan...I'm not sure but the grain looks pretty neat.

Todd, I look forward to returning the favor one day. God bless.

Regards, Justin

Tow,
you snagged that PM? Why no call? I'd help move it...I've been looking for a way to pay you back for the intro to turning. When's good this weekend that I can swing by? Sat am maybe? I'm almost booked solid sunday except from 2p - 4p.

This isn't the one from FireSlayer, right?

No, I didn't get a lathe, I got a 15" planer/molder. FS decided to keep his lathe so I'm still working on finding a bigger lathe. I'm selling off a few things from the shop to get some fundage built back up. Sold the 733 last night for $200.00 and it went VERY fast.

Probably will pickup Grizzly's Tormek clone while I'm in Springfield since the real deal is way outta range for me.

O o oh. Road trip.

Did you ever make contact with that ebay seller that had the stash of lumber down south?

Nope, I figure the walnut I have now (about 700 bf) will most likely last me a couple of years so no real need for more even at that price.

you'll like it, I've seen one and it is VERY similar to my real Tormek. Before you leave Springfield with it, take it out of the box and check the axle for runout. Shouldn't be ANY... That's the only thing you need watch for. Oh, get the leather wheels for the inside edges of your gouges, too. It is an extension that goes to the left of the stropping wheel. VERY handy!

No pics yet. I'll post one for sure. I gave my best of the three away to LOML's best friend before I could get a picture. It was a white oak blank and it turned out some awsome flecks. I was surprised. And the scrap blanks you sent me with look pretty darn neat too.

I posted a WTB and had no luck with responses. I just waded in there and picked up a new Jet. Now, it's deciding what odds and ends I need to build up to keep it fun. I'm watching for some group buys on pen kits.

Looking forward to more practice, practice, practice.

Did you get the plug and the powermatic humming then?

PM is up and running and man can you tell the difference from the dewalt 733.

Not that the 733 is a bad planer, it did it's job very well.

The PM is just in a seperate weight class altogether.
