Default Wood chuck

I am looking at picking up a chuck. I see everything from the Bear to to the Hailey comet special. From what I see. I am sure I want one that you do not have to fiddle with Jimmy Hoffa bars. There is this guy on Ebay that is selling the Super Nova brand for something like a buck and a quarter.
Any suggestions?

I can only recommend the one I have and that is the Oneway Stronghold, Highly recommend it.

There was recently a question asked about the Grizzly chuck, and I did some research on it and most everything I read was very favorable and the jaws from the Vicmarc chuck will fit it as well.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

What lathe do you have, and what do you intend to do with it? Tommy bars aren't that much of a problem, IMO.

Default Wood chuck

Now I'm really going to confuse you.
I have a Super Nova, (3) Grizzlys ($99) and a PSI barracuda chuck.
Like them all and haven't had any problems with any of them. Had the Super and Grizzs for 5 years or more and the PSI for 1.
Only chuck I had that was crap was a grizz $39.00 one that used tommy bars, broke that one in 2 months . It was made from some really crappy casings and cracked one day during use.
So my answer is that just about any reasonable priced or expensive chuck will work for you.
I really do like the Grizzly chucks for the price and the PSI is a good deal if you buy it through Amazon http://www.amazon.com/PSI-Woodworkin...9640746&sr=8-1 . Also order the correct adapter for your lathe if it isn't 3/4" -12 or 1"-8 TPI. Like http://www.amazon.com/PSI-Woodworkin...ol_ai_-2_4_tit
Confued enough ?

I have both Supernova and Stronghold chucks. Both chucks are very well made and should give you years of service. just make sure you get everything with it, jaws. worm screw, and T wrench. you still might have to get a spindle adopter to fit your lathe.

Quick answer. I hate changing jaws all the time so I bought a chuck for each jaw set I use. Getting old and lazy
